ASCEND

Home / What We Do / ASCEND

ASCEND is the Youth Programme of Hillview Community Church. We are a group of young people passionate about our faith in Jesus, seeking to learn more about him and to live lives which serve and honour him.

We are real people who believe that the bible is just as relevant today as it was when it was first written. What’s more, we believe that in it we find the answer to every challenge we face today in our worlds. Ascend is designed for young people in school years from S1 – S6. We meet on a Sunday night at Hillview Community Church from 6pm-8pm for worship, prayer, bible study and fun! We also get together for weekend’s away, special worship events and socials.

What Do You Value?

At ASCEND, we love:

The Bible
We believe it is the very word of God and that we should try our best to understand and apply it.

The Gospel
We believe that we have awesome news to share about the love of Jesus and that we should do our best to share that news.

Worship
We believe that God is amazing and that we should praise Him with joy, passion and commitment.

Prayer
We believe that prayer is powerful. That when we pray, God listens and that we should pray regularly to Him and for each other.

Each Other
We are family; we believe that God has made everyone special and that we should love and care for each other.

Having Fun
We believe our faith is alive, it is exciting and it should be fun. We will enjoy the freedom we have in Christ.

Mainly music is held on Thursdays at 9.45 am during school term-time.

What Should I Expect?

On a Sunday evening we gather from 6pm – 8pm in the church. We start the evening with some games, these can range from something sporty, to something more relaxed and humorous. There is normally some food involved at this stage before we spend some time looking at God’s word. This normally looks like Scott or one of the other youth leaders sharing a message with the group before heading into some groups to discuss what it means for our day to day. These group times are massively important and can be special times of sharing, encouraging and challenging one another.

Once you come along to Ascend, you’ll realise that this is more than just a Sunday evening “event”. The Ascend crew are a family. We spend time together at each other’s houses, watching movies, going out for dinner, going to Christian festivals and striving to be a part of each other’s lives throughout the week. This is a family who look to share prayer requests, life’s challenges and what God is doing in their lives 24/7.

What Does ‘ASCEND’ Mean?

ASCEND reflects something of the journey that we are on as a people trying to walk with the Lord. The scriptures speak many times of the “hill of the Lord” or times in which the Lord met with his people on the mountain. We want to echo the words of the Psalmist who sought to “ASCEND the hill of the Lord”. In other words, we want to try and strive for the best that the Lord has for us. We want to be faithful, to press on and journey together, encouraging each other as we go. We want to “press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me” (Philippians 3:12)

I’d like to come along. How can I find out more?

As a church we take our duty to care for children and young people very seriously – our Child Protection Policies and Procedures require that all our volunteers are carefully vetted and disclosure checked.
