Location: Cape Town, South Africa
Dates: 3rd July 2017 – 15th July 2017
As many of you will be aware we support a couple called Liam and Rachel Byrnes who are missionaries in Cape Town, South Africa. Liam and Rachel work with an organisation called All Nations that seeks to see Jesus worshipped by all peoples. They have church planting and unreached people groups at the core of their vision and have a church planting school in Cape Town. Liam and Rachel have been working in a township called Masiphumelele (Masi) since 2010 and have been used by God in a variety of ways – from caring for babies who were unwanted, to children who have no parents, working in after school clubs, investing in relationships, explaining the gospel message through a DBS (Discovery Bible Study), discipling those who make commitments and planting simple churches.
All Nations runs a programme called Isithembiso which means “Children of Promise”. This initiative looks to specifically help children, who are based in Masi, who have no parents or parents, who due to illness, are incapable of looking after their children. They help with funding (each child can be sponsored), shelter, food and clothing as well as providing spiritual and emotional support. Isithembiso also puts on after school clubs which help with homework and provide biblical teaching for all children in the township. Each year they take a large group of children away for a four/five day camp. For many of these children at the most basic level, this will be a unique opportunity to sleep in their own bed, have hot showers and enjoy regular meals. In addition, they spend time in bible study, worship and have great fun with the children in a safe environment. To do this well, they need help to run the camp and have asked us to partner with them.
The past two summers Hillview has sent a team out to Cape Town. Each year team members came home with testimonies of God being at work in and through them and drawing closer to Him. We are excited that we have been invited back for the summer of 2017 and are looking to build a team together over the next couple of months. For more information about South Africa, the trip, Isithembiso and testimonies from last year please access this information pack. If you would like to apply please download this form and give it to either Scott MacDonald or Colin Ross no later than the 8th of January.
